sale at all the major book retailers. The web site for the book is

Heroes Club Thanks for the Memories
Sent: Wednesday, September 06, 2006 7:08 PM

Today September 6, Pat Coniff sold Heroes Club. It reopens Thursday September 7 under new ownership and management with a new name. It will not be booking live music, which is too bad, but we wish the new owners much success as they pursue downtown Green Bay's lunch, happy hour and evening business with beverages and food service.

You're receiving this message because at some point you emailed Heroes Club or Pat's home. Pat appreciates his loyal patrons and the musicians who made Heroes Club a local legend. Thank you for your support of us. I'm Pat's wife and most of you know I'm not very timely with the emails. But if you want to email back a message for Pat, I am printing emails and making a scrapbook for him. Please feel free to share this email with other friends of Heroes. I also posted additional information on our web site http://heroesclub.com

Best regards, Pat and Barbara Coniff

Epsilon Beta 1993-1994

Recently, I (victor alatorre) was able to scan a lot of the pictures taken when I was the chapter's historian and secretary. Some argue these pictures reflect the best and worst of what greek life had to offer at UW Oshkosh in the early 1990s. In the mid to late 1990s, there was a shift on the culture and expectations vested on greeks on campus. I hope these pictures generate positive nostalgia for our alumni and other greek friends from that era.

The wedding of Joshua and Erin Thurmer

Joshua Thurmer (former president) and Erin Bade got married on July 1st, 2006. The event was held in Waukesha WI. A few of us had the pleasure to attend this event in the life of Josh and Erin. Congrats to the couple. The event was surreal because Erin's father is also a Delta Sig, so we had the pleasure to meet Delta Sigs from an alumni chapter at UW whitewater. It was a very memorable event for those who attended.

aquafina
Delta Sigma Phi on a bottled water commercial

From Victor Alatorre

Recently, a few of the brothers noticed our letters on a water commercial. It brought back good memories and nostalgia. Nevertheles, I strongly believe in the positive impact of good PR. It is not the beer and drinking games that makes a chapter, it is its membership. (click here to see the commercial at google)

From Brad Heutmaker

This is a picture from our chartering ceremony from this past Saturday night (June 10, 2006) at Chase Field here in Phoenix. The picture is of our current executive board from left to right, Lee Dueringer - Secretary - Univ. of Illinois, Tom Hewitt - Vice President - UW-Oshkosh, Craig Scrimpshire - President - Texas A&M, and myself - Treasurer - UW-Oshkosh. If you could put this on the chapter website in the alumni section it would be greatly appreciated.

The Legacy of Delta Sigma Phi at UW Oshkosh.

Through a collaborative effort between Victor Alatorre, Dan Beck, and Peter Willams, we have been able to scan, color correct, recover, remaster the legacy of our fraternity brothers from the 1960s and 1970s. The archive came from 2 sources: the old scrapbooks held by me and negatives from the collection of Peter Williams. The process has been time consuming, but we hope our brothers enjoy this collection showing the long-term legacy of delta sigma phi on campus.

Mark DeVita (Fall '85) recently completed mission trips to Uganda and Mississippi with a group of volunteers from his church.

Prior to leaving for Uganda, Mark helped lead fundraising efforts which funded the construction of a new church, transportation of Medical Staff, and the purchase of over 1200 pounds of medical supplies for the people in the community he visited. Once there, he and 11 members of his church spent two weeks teaching the local population about AIDS prevention, family health, and the Bible. During the two week trip Mark was impressed with the friendliness and hospitality of the people he met, as well as the responsibility they showed for each other (many older children helped raise the younger ones, even if they weren't related). He hopes to return on a similar mission in the future.

In Mississippi, Mark spent a week clearing trees and brush, removal of drywall and trash, and helping local people with odd jobs. Mark's mom once lived in the Pensacola area, so he's familiar with that part of the United States. "The destruction was unbelievable," said Mark, "I couldn't believe what I saw was here in our own country. The coastal area is completely devastated." He said he was glad to have helped out but there is lots more to do. Mark also continued his church mission and spent time talking to local people in the evenings.

Mark is an avid photographer and took many pictures during his trip.

Letter from Dave Prokop
Ok, ok quit bitching please.   I have been temporarily indisposed for a few weeks, of which my last installment left off.   In that time, I have managed to come back south and set up shop here in Kuwait.

Well, while I was in Iraq, I was mortared 3 times.   The first time was a bit of a surprise as we were sitting in the trailer and heard the boom.   We were like WTF was that?   I got the call from my lot guy and he said it was damn close, close enough to see the flash.   So we went through or incoming procedures and everything turned out fine.   Well, the second time was a little different.   "They" were close enough that we could hear the rounds leaving the tubes and subsequent impacts in our AO.   The first is always, "WTF was that?" and then the boom.   I heard it again and I said, man, I think we are getting hit again. Sure enough, the FOOMP and delayed KRUMP of the shell going off is a clear indicator someone doesn't like you.   The third one was by far the closest and rattled the shit out of the trailer. We went through the same procedures, again, and all was well.   The third time, I was actually reading and could hear all sorts of racket outside. I had heard a couple of booms, but wasn't sure if we were getting hit again.   We were.   So I called down and my group said they weren't sure. After I hung up, I heard the "All Clear" called out and I was like well, whatta ya know?   3 times mortared and no one hurt, thank god.   Its just like 5 O'clock Charlie from MASH, the damn drone of the motor and then the booms all around, but hitting jack shit.

Thanksgiving was awesome and we chowed big time, so much that I was looking for the blanket and remote so I could take a nap, it was that good.   The kicker was when I was offered Egg Nog, which I always drink, especially with Southern Comfort.   That brought a tear to my eye, actually, and I was really missing home then at that moment.

Ya know, not really too much happened over the past couple of months.   There has been accidents that we helped out with, and just our every day routines.   It is really nice hear, like Wisconsin in June or early July.

The other ass kicker which has been driving me crazy is missing gun season. I live for that shit and had to miss it.   At least we got pix here from all over of everything that was dropped over the season, and there were some slobs that didn't make it for next year.

One of the funnier moments was on my way from Talil to Cedar.   I was driving back and of course the little urchins are begging for water and food and all the other stuff they want.   I locked up the Humvee and said, "look at that kid!"   My buddy was like, "What? What?" I said, "LOOK!" And he said, "AT WHAT???"   I said the kid has got a freakin MULLET!   We both started laughing our asses off. I sure as hell hope this isn't part of the American culture that gets firmly embedded in the Iraqi culture.   If it is, we are doomed...Sl'ainte

Epsilon Beta celebrates 40 years, purchase of chapter house at Oshkosh, Wisconsin

Oshkosh, Wis - Delta Sigs at the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh celebrated the 40 th anniversary of their chartering on October 22 nd . The weekend also included a dedication ceremony of their newly purchased house at 414 W. Irving. National Representatives Chris Northern and Tom Wible were on hand for the festivities, as well as several 60's and 70's Alumni and their wives, many of whom shared stories of what campus life was like in the 1960's.

A Dinner at the Oshkosh Convention Center followed the activities at the house. Chris Northern, Past Grand Council President noted "Last year, I heard some plans and some dreams set forth by the chapter and the ACB. A year later, I have seen many of those plans implemented, and several dreams fulfilled."

Scott Bucklin, Spring '87 and EB ACB President explained "We're very fortunate to have Alumni who were willing to step up and make personal guarantees so that we could purchase this house. We had the down payment, but the bank needed to know we had people backing up the organization. Our guarantors were secured in less than 60 days." Ten Alumni from Epsilon Beta signed personal guarantees of $5000 to purchase the house.

Favorite memories from the Alumni

Tom Hewitt - My pledge trip with Mike R. in 1963, also the winter formals throughout the 60's were very memorable.

Tom Kontny - St. Patricks Day 1965 at the Westward Ho. There were 2 Fraternities and 2 Sororities - on roller skates.

Tom Hobart - Spring '66 pledge class - taken to laundry mat in Omro and left there in our underwear.. we beat the actives back to the fraternity house!

Gene Sprenger - All the studying and no partys - Ha Ha!

Tom Hanson - The house, the camaraderie, and my graduation

Dick Bidwell - Pledge trip to Parson's College in Fairfield, IA with Bob Koch and Jim Hobart

Tom Krueger - Far too many to list, many of which were experiences that could have never been replicated!

Tom Sippel - Playing basketball every Saturday morning at a local school after partying on Friday nights. Also, listening to "Grama" at the Sunday Brunch, on how we needed to be as good as the boys in the other fraternities.

Gerald Gonyo - the holiday parties

Peter Williams - the parties and fellowship

Ken Willkomm - sitting on the floor at the "circus" drinking and singing after songfest

Scott Bucklin - as a pledge, feeding a Alpha Xi's pledges pistachio pudding while blindfolded (with both groups of actives cheering us on) - then having them return the favor! Also, hanging out with Tim Dewitz in Daytona - Spring Break '87.

ACB Announcement and Request
From Scott Bucklin:
Brothers -
As a result of many months of work by the ACB, we have a plan to purchase a house in the coming months. We are not asking for money, but we do need your support.

Jim Rath and I sat down with Scott Chiccone of the UW-Oshkosh Credit Union last month. Scott is very willing to help us to purchase a house and helped us narrow our options. He is willing to coordinate sponsorships of the house to allow many Brothers and friends of the chapter to "chip in" with their personal guarantee - in essence - cosign for the house.

There are two ways this can be done -

Option A)
A 4 year CD of $5000 earning 4% (1% above market) held by the UWOCU. The $5000 would serve as collateral for the loan for those 4 years. The 4% belongs to the person who purchased the CD - a good deal if you've got the money to invest.

Option B)
A $5000 Co-sign which would require only a signature and guarantee the payment of the loan through the entire term of the loan. No down payment required. Note that the risk goes down each year as the mortgage is paid.

As for the house, the Actives are moving to 414 Irving this Summer, and have already signed a lease to occupy this dwelling. Our goal is to purchase this dwelling from the Litjens family for $75,000. Rob Wilcox and I have discussed our plan to purchase and they are willing to wait for us to contact our members and enlist the guarantors under options A and B. We would put 20% down on the house ($15,000) and then guarantee the $60,000 balance with plan A and B, so we're looking for 12 guarantors.

The remainder of the housing fund would be "renamed" a house maintenance fund, from which the mortgage would be automatically drawn each month and also any necessary repairs would be drawn from as well. As we currently have about $22,000 in the fund, this would leave $7,000 on hand for incidentals and serve as a financial cushion. All rent would be paid into this fund, and any excess would help to grow the fund for the future.

I encourage you to step forward and help the chapter make this long awaited dream a reality. Jim Rath and I have agreed to be guarantors, so we're looking for 10 more. Please respond to ssbucklin@aol.com with your name, address, and phone number. We will send you the information c/o the UWO Credit Union.

December 2004
Merry Christmas!
It has been an interesting semester. Things are going well for the chapter, actives and alumni.

November was a month of engagements for a few brothers of the Delta Sigma Phi brotherhood. Brothers: Erick Alatorre, Joshua Thurmer, Jason Schouten and Christopher Andrews got engaged to their respective ladies.

Chris Andrews is moving back to Sweden to pursuit other employment opportunities back home.

Greg Conger recently moved down to Milwaukee to work for Advance Health Care in the IT Department.

Larry Baier is back in Oshkosh working for Miles Kimball as an Application Designer.

Bill Bannantine's wife is expecting their first child on late December. Bill is also planning the annual Brewers baseball outing in the summer of 2005.

Ben Bollenbacher's wife Molly is expecting their second child. He recently donated $200 to the alumni scholarship fund managed by UW Oshkosh.

The active brothers have been busy doing philanthropy work. They managed to raise some money for the Salvation Army and a family in need.

PS: Jason Schouten just emailed me to let us know, he recently got engaged to Kelly Burke. They are planning their wedding for Oct 1st, 2005.

The events on Homecoming 2004 as seen by me. (Victor Alatorre) The following do not represent anyone's views but mine.

==============================================================
People started coming on Friday nite. I went to Kelly's after yell like hell. I hung out with 5 or 6 people: (Conger, Selenka, Krenke, chuck, Bil U, Bill Bannatine, Chris L, Shaggy, Rich, etc) Things got busy around 10ish. The guys from the 80s went to the Granary for dinner and then molly's to see Taggart.

Around 11:00 pm, a lot of people started to gather at Mollys. Krueger and other 80s people showed up and Bannatine, Gialdini, Kenan and such. People seemed to have a good time

Saturday, I went to the house around 8:00 am for the meeting. The house was immaculate. The president from the national office was there too. (nice guy) the actives were precooking everything, so we wouldn't have to wait for food.

acb 2004

We had the meeting. 20 or so people were there. Scott gave his report, the 80s talked about their event, rath talked about scholarship, then scott spoke about donations, money report, nationals report, etc. The first time Chuck and I walked out feeling calm and happy. I saw many young people donate small amounts, but for the first time, people were giving. I gave a little for the first time to Rath for scholarships. No one bitched. No one complained about actives. There wasn't the usual "respect speech" someone always goes off on.

After the meeting, we went to the alumni house to see the parade and to have some hot cocoa. The 60s guys were there. (Ron S., Richard Bidwell and crew). After the parade, we went back to the house for a cook out. It was a family friendly event. 80's guys started to show up, Tom Krueger, John Kelly, Joe Kelley, Mark DeVita, Hafsoos, Julian G, etc. and also the guys from the 90s, gronk, shane, predator, etc. Many young brothers too. We were there for about 2 hours. Eric Hafsoos showed up with a picture of the charter ing event from 1984. I was happy to see the older guys talk to the actives A few hours later, some of the guys from the 80s went to see the old house at 555 algoma. Nostalgia filled their hearts.

We talked and talked and talked. Everyone seemed older more mature, more subdued, low key, etc. I went home around 6:00 pm... The plan was for me to take a nap and return for the actives formal. I never made out... my couch was too comfortable. I had had my fair share of drinking, talking and second hand smoking.

I heard the 80s guys had a good dinner at the Park Plaza. Larry Harvey made three DVDs with about 3000 some pictures he got from Mark Devita and others. I guess the multimedia presentation was great. The actives had their dinner... There were about 15 alumni from the late 90s and early 2000s there. Around 11:00 the 80s guys came into the hall signing the delta sig anthem. I guess the scene was pretty intense.

On Sunday, I heard a few actives rave about the 80s participation.... Scott Bucklin, James Rath and myself were happy. For once I felt like people cared. This was the most people I've seen in a long time. I hope we can maintain momentum, buy a house, pay bills, gets some scholarships, etc.

20th Anniversary ofthe Re-chartering
by Eric Hafsoos

November 2004
The 2004 UWO Homecoming marked the 20th anniversary of the re-chartering of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. An event that is ultimately responsible for the entire reemergence of a Greek system at UWO.

During the 50’s and 60’s UWO had a number of fraternities and sororities on campus. A Greek system that thrived until the mid 1970’s. During the Vietnam War, interest waned, membership dropped and ultimately all of the houses had closed by approximately 1974-75.

I was a freshman at UWO in 1982 living in South Scott Hall. This is where I met my roommate, John Kelly from Wilmette, IL. Many of John's high school friends attending other universities were joining fraternities at the time. Because there were no social fraternities or Sororities at UWO, John came up with the idea to start one.

Over then next several months John and a handful of others, primarily from Scott Hall, began asking friends and roommates if they would be interested in joining. Within a few weeks, approximately 30 other students were recruited to start local chapter. The question was: which fraternity should we start? After completing his daily studying, John grabbed a flashlight and made his way across the parking lot to Wisconsin Ave. Written in the cement sidewalk in front of the now defunct dance bar "The Alibi" were the names of a number of Fraternities. He put together a list and did some research.

This picture was taken at a recent gathering of UW-Oshkosh Alums at a gathering of alums in the Hartland Arrowhead area. Tim is a successful business owner in the Pewaukee area with a daughter going to "UW Oshkosh.  Tom Taraska is one of the greatest coaches in history of Wisconsin high school football UWO grad and the only non-Delta Sig in the photo.  Mike Klaus is a sales rep and another 60s guy.  Dr. David Lodes is the Superintendent of Schools for Hartland Arrowhead Schools.  All three of these gentlemen were instrumental in myself becoming a Delta Sig and Coach Taraska has been very positive in his evaluations of my football crew that has helped us achieve the ultimate goal of the Wisconsin State Football Championships at Camp Randall.

This webpage was first created in the summer of 1994 by Chuck Milam and Victor Alatorre at the SUN lab in UW Oshkosh. It was the first webpage ever created and published on this campus. Chuck Milam was a student UNIX administrator at that time and was playing around with a new web server daemon called "NCSA httpd," which eventually became the Apache web server. The rest is history... The webpage has grown and changed dramatically in the last 12 years. It is currently supported by Victor Alatorre. Alumni advisor of Delta Sigma Phi Epsilon Beta.
