How do I apply to the Intensive English Program?
Go to Application Information and fill out the IEP application materials step-by-step.

How much is the application fee?
The application fee for the is $44.00.

What do I need to send with my application?
All applicants need to send a completed application, the application fee, a copy of their passport ID page, and an original bank verification letter or scholarship letter.

What information needs to be included in the bank letter?
The bank letter must be an original document that states that the student, family member or sponsor has sufficient funds to cover all of the student’s expenses while studying at the IEP.

When should I apply to the IEP?
We suggest that you send all documents at least 2 months in advance of the session in which you want to attend. You may apply later, but please remember that it may be difficult to get a visa in a shorter amount of time depending on the country you are applying from.  Students who apply after the recommended deadlines will be considered on a case by case basis.

Is there an age requirement to study at the IEP?
Students must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma.

What do I need to send to the IEP Program Coordinator to complete my application?
You will need to submit the following before arriving:
- UW Oshkosh Undergraduate International Application including nonrefundable/nontransferable application fee of $44.00. 
- Official Transcripts with English Translations.

- English Proficiency Test Scores.

- Declaration of Finances with all supporting financial documents.

- Housing Documents from the welcome packet (Housing Deferment Agreement, Housing Contract, Dining Card, Hall Selection Card).

You will need to submit the following after arriving:
- Photocopy of your passport identification page.
- Photocopy of your F-1 visa stamp in passport.
- Photocopy of your current Form I-20.
- Photocopy of your current I-94.

- Personal Statement & TB Screening Report Form.

How long does it take to process my application?
When the IEP has received all of your admission documents, it takes 2-5 business days to process your application materials.

How do I get a student visa?
Look at the U.S. Embassy web site in your country for instructions on how to apply for an F-1 student visa. You can also find visa instructions at: http://educationusa.state.gov/usvisa.

When do I receive my I-20?
We will send you your IEP welcome packet and initial I-20 via standard mail after we accept you into the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Intensive English Program.

What is conditional admission?

Conditional admission is designed for international students whose first language is not English, and who need to find out if they are eligible to study at UW Oshkosh. Students who have a strong academic background but lack the required TOEFL score may apply for a conditional admission to UW Oshkosh through the Intensive English Program. For this type of admission a student studies a minimum of one semester at the IEP, fulfills the requirements of the conditional admission, then enters a UW Oshkosh degree program the following semester with support from the IEP.

Can I transfer to the IEP?
If you are currently studying at another school or English program in the United States, you can request a transfer to the IEP at UW Oshkosh.

What do I need to send to the IEP to complete my transfer application?
You will need to submit the following before arriving:
- UW Oshkosh Undergraduate International Application including nonrefundable/nontransferable application fee of $44.00.

IEP Registration and Orientation

 

How does the IEP decide my level?
You will take an English placement exam during Orientation week.

When do I arrive at the IEP and how do I get from the airport to UW Oshkosh?
You should arrive the weekend before Orientation Week begins to attend orientation sessions for 4 days.  When you receive your welcome packet, we will remind you of the dates to arrive and how to arrange for airport pick-up. 

IEP Tuition

 

When do I pay my tuition and program fees?
You will pay your tuition and fees when you prepare for classes during Orientation Week.

 How do I pay my IEP tuition?
You can pay your IEP tuition by check, credit card, international money order, or wire transfer.  Talk with the program coordinator for more information if you have questions. 


IEP Classes


When do IEP classes begin?
The UW Oshkosh IEP offers three sessions each year depending upon enrollments:
• Summer Session (7 weeks) Late May to Late July
• Fall Session (14 weeks) Late August to Late December
• Spring Session (14 weeks) Late January to Early May

How does the IEP decide my level?
You will take  placement exams during Orientation Week. The exams measure your English skills.

How many hours will I be in class?
All IEP students are expected to take 19 hours of class each week.

Can IEP students take college courses?
Students are encouraged to attend UW Oshkosh college courses after they complete advanced level classes at the IEP.

What is the class schedule like?
IEP classes meet every weekday, Monday thru Friday.  On Monday and Tuesday classes are from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm and on Wednesday - Friday classes are from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm.

When will I receive my class schedule?
You will meet your instructors and receive your IEP class schedule during Orientation Week.

Will I receive a certificate of completion when I leave the IEP?
Yes, you will receive a certificate of participation after completing the low and intermediate courses.   After students finish the advanced level courses they will receive a certificate of completion and recommendation to UW Oshkosh degree programs if they have passing grades.

What do I have to do to graduate from the IEP program?
The academic status of a student enrolled in our IEP is based on Pass/Fail courses at each level of English proficiency.  To graduate from the IEP program in good standing with a recommendation to begin university classes, students must finish all classes at the IEP advanced level with an average of at least 80%, have adequate attendance in all aspects of the program, and meet the program standards on the placements exams. Grading policies will be explained in more detail before classes begin during orientation.

 

Admission to UW Oshkosh

 

May I attend UW Oshkosh after I finish the IEP?
Yes!  Successful completion of the Advanced Level in the Intensive English Program allows students to transition easily to undergraduate enrollment to the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.  We help students as they transition to a degree program through advising and registration support.

May I get a job on campus?
As our program is “intensive” English study, balancing English language learning and a job is extremely challenging. Therefore, we do not allow students to work while enrolled in the program.
