Vision Statement


The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Intensive English Program will realize that the successful introduction of non-native English speaking students to their host institution is not only the primary responsibility of the Office of International Education and other student support services on campus, but it is also the responsibility of English language teaching staff at the IEP. 

We will see IEP instructors and support staff comprehending their important role in preparing students academically, socially, and culturally for success as university students through an effective English language curriculum taught 19+ hours a week.  We will perceive a curriculum focused on English language proficiency development for academic and professional purposes as well as for functional everyday usage in a US academic setting in an effort to address the fundamental relationship between language learning and culture learning.

Finally, we will observe instruction provided through a variety of English language skills, content areas and levels in order to effectively improve both the English proficiency of students as well as their understanding of the cultural information (communicative intercultural competence) necessary to interact comfortably and constructively within a US academic environment.
