Diversity Award

Awards of up to $1,500 per calendar year for completion of three IEP terms (up to $500 maximum per term) are given each academic year to outstanding Intensive English Program applicants from underrepresented countries in the Intensive English Program or underrepresented countries at UW Oshkosh. This award is renewable and is paid during each term over which a student is enrolled in the Intensive English Program.

Eligibility

  • Citizenship or ethnicity that is underrepresented in the UW Oshkosh Intensive English Program and/or at UW Oshkosh.  Contact us at ELS@uwosh.edu to share your citizenship or ethnicity in advance of application!
  • Admission to UW Oshkosh as a degree seeking, visiting or exchange student OR admission to another university (in the U.S. or abroad).  Applicants who are applying to UW Oshkosh but have not yet been admitted are eligible, provided all required admissions documents are submitted to the University prior to the scholarship application deadline.
  • High school and/or university GPA of 3.0 or higher during each of the previous two semesters.  For students currently studying at an intensive English program, English program grades and attendance will also be considered.

Application Documents

  • Essay addressing 1) your commitment to your own educational development outside of the classroom and 2) your commitment to using your education and skills to contribute to your community.  To demonstrate your commitment, discuss your extracurricular activities, leadership positions, volunteer work and/or other relevant activities.  The essay must be a minimum of 500 words and a maximum of 1,000 words in length.
  • Recommendation letters from two teachers.  These may be in English or in another language.  These must have a date on them and should be recent.  You may use the same recommendations for your application to the Intensive English Program and/or to UW Oshkosh.

Application Deadline

  • 60 days prior to the first day of class.  No late applications will be accepted.  Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Economic Equity Award

  • Clearly demonstrated financial need.
  • Admission to UW Oshkosh as a degree seeking, visiting or exchange student OR admission to another university (in the U.S. or abroad).  Applicants who are applying to UW Oshkosh but have not yet been admitted are eligible, provided all required admissions documents are submitted to the University prior to the scholarship application deadline.
  • High school and/or university GPA of 3.0 or higher during each of the previous two semesters.  For students currently studying at an intensive English program, English program grades and attendance will also be considered.

  • IF your financial documents DO NOT reflect your true financial situation, submit a Personal Financial Statement detailing extenuating circumstances that explain why your family’s income or assets are significantly different from the income and assets on your financial documentation.
