International Student Services will be happy to assist any visiting scholars, professors, or researchers coming to the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh from abroad.

Information for Prospective Visiting Scholars:
Please contact the academic department concerned for any information regarding opportunities for collaboration.
Specific information regarding the appointment of international faculty and academic staff is available at the Office of Human Resources.
Information for UW Oshkosh Faculty/Staff:
Please contact International Student Services (ISS) if you are interested in bringing a visiting scholar from abroad to campus. ISS is responsible for all immigration processing for those visiting scholars, faculty, and staff seeking to enter the U.S. on a J-1 exchange visitor visa.
ISS needs the following documents completed and returned in order to proceed with the request to host a visiting scholar:

From the sponsoring faculty or staff member: |

- Letter of proposal outlining terms of the proposed visit including:dates of proposed visit, type of support to be provided(room/board, stipend, transportation expenses, etc.), areas of collaboration (research, teaching, etc), and type and amount of funding

- Official letter of invitation from sponsoring faculty/staff member or department
|
| |
|
- Verification of approval from Department Chair and Dean
|
| |
|
|
|
| |
From the prospective Exchange Visitor: |

- Completed 'DS-2019 Request Form" (available upon request)
|
| |
|
- Supporting documents (copies of passport, previously issued visas, verification of current position at home institution)
|
| |
|
- Proof of adequate personal finances, if instiutional support is inadequate to cover all living expenses
|
| |
|
- Proof of adequate health insurance coverage
|
As soon as ISS has received all of the necessary information, a “DS-2019 Form” will be issued to the prospective Exchange Visitor. The DS-2019 form is the document which certifies eligibility and will permit the Exchange Visitor to apply for the J-1 visa at the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate Office.
ISS will provide pre-arrival and orientation information to the prospective Exchange Visitor at the same time the DS-2019 is sent. It is the reponsibility of the sponsoring faculty/staff member or academic department to make necessay living arrangements for the Visiting Scholar and any dependents which may accompany him/her. More information can be obtained from ISS upon request.
