Fall 2008 New Student Pre-Arrival and Orientation Information
Welcome to the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh!
International students from around the world have come to study and live at our University. For over thirty years students from more than 100 countries have studied at UW Oshkosh, and their experiences are deeply ingrained in the rich heritage of this University. Currently, students from more than 40 countries can call UW Oshkosh “home”.

The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Office of International Student Services (ISS) is responsible for providing international students and visiting scholars with immigration services, advising, and campus and community programming.
International Student Services serves as the central point for international students in F-1, J-1 and other non-immigrant statuses at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. The International Student Advisor is the University’s official representative in all contacts with the US Department of Homeland Security and the Department of State regarding the enrollment of international students and scholars.
UW Oshkosh encourages the enrollment of qualified international students in suitable programs and seeks to attract students whose academic potential has already been recognized in their home countries. An international student is classified for educational purposes as a person who is a citizen or permanent resident of a country other than the United States. UW Oshkosh is authorized under Federal law to enroll nonimmigrant students. ISS also attempts to ensure that the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh complies with all applicable laws set forth by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Department of State, and other government agencies.
UW Oshkosh International Student Services provides the following services:
- International undergraduate admissions
- I-20 issuance for F-1 students
- DS-2019 issuance for J-1 students and visiting scholars
- Academic credentials evaluations for all international applicants
- Immigration, academic, and personal advising
- Coordination of orientation programs for all new international students
- Preparation and completion of forms & applications
- On and off campus employment authorizations and assistance
- Change of immigration status assistance
- Tax preparation and filing assistance
- Health insurance adminstration and assistance for international students
- On campus and community events and programs highlighting international themes
- Determination of residency for international students
- Development of links between internationals and the local community
- Coordination of the International Student Tuition Waiver Program
- Advisement of the UW Oshkosh International Student Association
