Universidad de Salamanca

The Universidad de Salamanca was founded in 1218 and remains the oldest University in Spain. A UNESCO World Heritage City, it is also one of the oldest in Europe. Over the past forty years, more than 150,000 students and teachers from around the world have studied at the Universidad de Salamanca.

Universidad de Salamanca-Cursos Internacionales

Intensive language courses are taught at the Universidad de Salamanca-Cursos Internacionales, which is the intensive language division of the university offering Spanish as a Foreign Language courses at all levels. All participants become official Universidad de Salamanca students, with the same access to all University facilities and services as Spanish students.

Spanish Learning (SL)

Spanish Learning (SL) is an organization which assists individual students and groups traveling to intensive language schools in Salamanca. SL makes all individual and group arrangements from airport pickup to airport drop off and serves as liaison between the student and Cursos Internacionales or the student and the host family when necessary. Students who participate through a one-month group option will travel to and from Salamanca as a group, with flight arrangements made through the UW Oshkosh Office of International Education and arrangements in Spain made through SL. Students who travel independently also have the option of using SL's services.

A representative from SL meets the individual or group at the airport in Madrid and accompanies the individual or group to Salamanca (June group or individual travelers) or on an entry tour to various Spanish cities (January group). SL staff are also available to answer student questions throughout the experience and in case of emergency. Services through SL include: airport pickup (Madrid’s Barajas airport), host family selection and introduction, orientation, escort to the placement test, meeting after the first day of class to resolve any issues with class placement and host family placements, 24-hour emergency phone contact, field trips, taxi service to field trip departure sites; transportation to Madrid at the end of the program; airport drop off (Madrid’s Barajas airport). UW Oshkosh students meet up with students from other parts of the world for many of the SL events.

Individuals who travel on their own (apart from a group) and who do not elect programming through Spanish Learning have the option of traveling to/from Salamanca on their own to study at Cursos Internacionales and/or through the Integrated Studies Program at any time of year. See the Cursos Internacionales course schedule for detailed class start and class end dates (click on "Spanish Courses" and "Spanish Language and Culture Courses"). The UW Oshkosh OIE will enroll participants through the program at Cursos Internacionales initially; participants are responsible for making all other arrangements pertaining to their travel and stay in Salamanca.

UW Oshkosh Faculty Leader (June only)

A UW Oshkosh faculty member accompanies our student group either from UW Oshkosh or from the airport in Madrid to Salamanca and remains in Salamanca for the first four or five days of the group program.
