Educational Foundations and Mathematics Education in Peru

Join a group of UW Oshkosh students as they study theories and conditions of learning, the theory and practice of teaching, and the nature of mathematics and mathematical behavior.

EXAMINE education in Peru first-hand as you interact with officials from the ministry of education and visit Peruvian primary and secondary schools.

COMPARE education practices in the US and Peru, including teaching philosophy and methodology, curricula and standards, teacher preparation and training.

STUDY the nature of mathematics, and theories of mathematics teaching and learning in the elementary and middle grades.

CREATE a middle grades curriculum project and teach in a Peruvian mathematics classroom.

INTERACT with Peruvian students and teachers in classrooms in Lima, in the Andes highlands, and in the Amazonian rainforest.

EXPERIENCE the important sites of Incas, the great pre-Columbian empire of South America, including hiking to Machu Picchu.

All courses will be taught by accompanying UW Oshkosh faculty at the Universidad del Pacífico.
