First Week/First Weekend 1.
an extended adventurous wandering; 2. an intellectual or spiritual quest; Dear New Student, Welcome to the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh! As you join our community and begin to participate in new academic adventures and campus activities, we hope you will quickly immerse yourself in university life and enjoy the opportunities afforded to you throughout the year. Returning residence hall and commuter students, as well as a large contingency of faculty and staff members, have planned invigorating orientation programs during Odyssey 2008 to help you become an active UW Oshkosh student. At 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 3, classes begin for fall 2008. Look for opportunities to get involved. You can engage your professors in spirited classroom discussions, attend football games and soccer matches, organize an intramural team for your hall, browse the Polk Library, jog along the Fox River, work out at the Student Rec. and Wellness Center, participate in the Homecoming parade, enhance your skills in the Reading Study Center, or join a committee at the Multicultural Education Center, Reeve Union Board, Oshkosh Student Association or United Students in Residence Halls, where you’ll make new lifelong friends. I look forward to seeing you on Sunday, Aug. 31 at 5:30 p.m. in the Kolf Sports Center during your opening welcome. We’re looking forward to having you on campus, and we know you’ll enjoy the college experience! Sincerely, James M. Chitwood
