Tom Patt named director of UW Oshkosh’s
new Student Recreation and Wellness Center
OSHKOSH, Wis. – (9/17/07) The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh has appointed Tom Patt as the director of the University’s new Student Recreation and Wellness Center (SRWC).
The $21-million, 104,000-square-foot SRWC features options for health and wellness, including a climbing wall, three basketball courts, free-weight theater, a multipurpose gym for soccer and floor hockey, a walking and jogging track, cardio center and a Cyber Café, which offers healthy food options. The facility was funded by students through segregated fees.
“UW Oshkosh has a national reputation as a campus on the move and a Student Affairs division focused squarely on promoting excellence in student academic success and personal growth,” said Patt. “This facility reflects that commitment to student development and I am grateful for UW Oshkosh students for providing this facility to the campus and am privileged to serve as their director.”
“We are pleased and fortunate to have Tom Patt join our staff as the Director of Recreation,” said Petra Roter, vice chancellor for student affairs. “He has been a driving force in the SRWC’s completion and I know he will be take recreation on this to a new level.”
A grand opening ceremony for the SRWC will take place from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sept. 21. Chancellor Richard H. Wells and other members of the community will speak at 4 p.m. for the ribbon cutting ceremony. The event is open to the public.
Patt comes to UW Oshkosh from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire, where he served as the University Recreation and Sport Facilities Director since 2004. Prior to that, Patt was the University Recreation Director at UW Eau Claire since 1999.
The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh has grown since its founding in 1871 to become the third-largest university in Wisconsin. With a fulltime enrollment of more than 12,400 (11,000 on campus) students, the university offers 73 associate, baccalaureate and master’s degree programs in the colleges of Business Administration, Education and Human Services, Letters and Science and Nursing. UW Oshkosh, an educational and cultural anchor that had a $501-million impact on the New North region in 2005-2006, serves as an economic engine for 1.2 million citizens of northeastern Wisconsin.
