Mission Statement

University Relations supports the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh’s Governing Ideas (mission, vision and core values) by enhancing the University’s identity and increasing knowledge of the University’s quality educational opportunities and services through well-planned and executed communication efforts to internal and external audiences.

Services

University Relations works to increase the effectiveness (quality and quantity) of communication efforts to internal and external target audiences on behalf of the University through community/public relations, news and media relations, marketing and publications.

Community/Public Relations activities include

  • Maintaining an online public events calendar.
  • Participating in collaborative community projects.
  • Representing the University at community events.

News and Media Relations activities include

  • Writing and distributing news releases.
  • Publishing the faculty/staff e-newsletter.
  • Providing campus calendar items to campus and commercial radio stations.
  • Developing relationships with local media and answering media inquiries for information and photographs.
  • Hosting the media at campus events.
  • Providing guidance to faculty and staff in dealing with the media.

Marketing activities include

  • Developing marketing campaigns/materials to promote the University.
  • Developing and maintaining a strong and consistent visual/textual identity for the University.
  • Placing information and advertising in local, regional and national outlets.

Publications activities include

  • Developing and publishing the twice-yearly University Magazine (print run of 52,000) and the Strategic Plan Update/Annual Report.
  • Providing creative support for other key university publications, such as the Viewbook (print run of 25,000) and other recruiting materials, the Foundation annual report and other development materials, Nursing’s CONtact magazine (print run of 4,000) and Academic Support’s Diversity magazine (print run of 2,000), the spring and fall commencement programs, the opening day program, undergraduate/graduate catalogs, campus phone directory, and athletic posters and schedule cards.
  • Assisting colleges, departments and program offices with developing and printing posters, brochures and other promotional/informational pieces.
