New Funds
- Alumni Sponsored Nursing Excellence Scholarship is funded through contributions from nursing alumni.
- Black Thursday Oral History Project Fund supports efforts to document the Nov. 21, 1968, protest that led to the suspension of 94 black students at what was then Wisconsin State University-Oshkosh.
- Center for the Study of Film and History Fund supports the center’s efforts to organize international conferences, coordinate workshops with local schools, work with news media and publish Film & History: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Film and Television Studies. • COEHS Alumni Association Chapter Scholarship is funded by members of the College of Education and Human Services Alumni Association.
- Helen M. Deniger Scholarship was established through a bequest from Helen Deniger of Oshkosh, who died in September 2006. Deniger, who had attended UW Oshkosh, designated her gift for the College of Business.
- Paul Donhauser Art-Student Scholarship was founded in memory of the accomplished ceramicist and painter who taught design and ceramics for 40 years and passed away in November 2007. Donhauser’s family created the scholarship for students pursuing a career in art education or studio arts.
- Anne Burns Hillenbrand Family Scholarship, created by the Oshkosh resident’s family, provides a four-year, full-tuition scholarship and paid fellowship opportunities through the University’s Center for Community Partnerships.
- Kennedy Nursing Fellow Scholarship, which annually recognizes 20 top nursing students, was established through a gift from the Dr. and Mrs. Hugh A. Kennedy Foundation of Corpus Christi, Texas. Hugh Kennedy was a 1929 secondary education graduate who became a physician.
- Wolfgang P. Kowalski Scholarship was established by Kowalski’s friends in his memory to recognize students who share his “zest for life and entrepreneurial tendency.” Preference will be given to graduates of Gibraltar High School in Fish Creek.
- Wilbert J. Kuehn Nursing Scholarship was established in memory of the Sun Prairie farmer to “help promising nursing students make their start so that they might cultivate their professional lives in serving others through nursing.”
- Dorothy Lane Memorial Nursing Scholarship was established by Paul Lane, in memory of his mother, one of the founders of the College of Nursing. The scholarship was created to recognize student achievement and exemplary nursing potential.
- Norman Muehrer Scholarship was created in memory of the Oshkosh native by his wife, Patricia ’44. The scholarship will be awarded to female students in the elementary education program.
- Greg Olsen Sociology Award was created in memory of the sociology lecturer and former instructor in the Bachelor of Liberal Studies Program. Olsen died in May 2007.
- The Stanley and Dianna Sibley Scholarship was established to honor professor emeritus Stanley Sibley, who died in April 2007. Sibley taught in the College of Business from 1971 to 2006. The fund will provide scholarships for marketing students.
- Social Work Department Fund provides general support for the department.
- Sociology Department Fund provides general support for the department.
- Titan Touchdown Club supports Titan football through service projects and special events at football games.
- James W. Unger Scholarship was established by Unger’s wife, Dorothy ’42, and daughter, Ann Leslie, for biology/microbiology students. Unger, who died in August 2007, was a biology professor for 30 years. Dorothy taught library science classes and worked at Polk Library.
- Women’s Studies Fund was initiated by Helen M. Bannan, Women’s Studies director, prior to her retirement in July 2007. The fund will support awards for women’s studies students as well as other program needs.
