Student pitches against Team USA

Ronessa Stampfli, who completed her University of Wisconsin Oshkosh women's softball career last spring, pitched two innings against Team USA on June 17 at Zenoff Park in Stevens Point.

More than 2,500 people were in attendance to watch the 2008 USA Olympic women's softball team continue its "Bound 4 Beijing Tour" with a game against the Midwest All-Stars. The Midwest All-Stars consisted of NCAA Division I, II and III players from Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Stampfli allowed just one earned run as Team USA topped the Midwest All-Stars, 20-1. She gave up five hits and walked one batter. Stampfli recorded the only strikeout of a Team USA player, when she fanned Caitlin Lowe to end the third inning. Lowe was a four-time NCAA Division I All-American at the University of Arizona.

Stampfli, who received NCAA Division III All-America first team honors by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association in 2007, ranks seventh in NCAA Division III history with 1,019 career strikeouts.

WRST wins WIAC's Tom Butler Award

The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh student radio station WRST is the 2008 winner of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's (WIAC) Tom Butler Award. It is the first student organization to receive the honor.

The Tom Butler Award, established in 1998, is presented annually to a member of the print or electronic media for outstanding coverage of WIAC athletics. The league's nine sports information directors select the award winner.

WRST, located at 90.3 on the FM radio dial, began broadcasting diverse programming to Oshkosh and other Fox Valley communities in 1966. In 2005, the radio station began streaming all local programming on its Web site (www.uwosh.edu/wrst.)

During the 2007-2008 academic year, WRST broadcasted UW Oshkosh baseball, football, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, women's softball, women's volleyball and wrestling sporting events. In addition, the station covered the 2008 WIAC and NCAA Division III wrestling championships.
