More than 100 hours dedicated to tutoring her peers in the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh’s Center for Academic Resources (CAR) has earned Miranda Engberg recognition by a national organization.

Engberg, a senior biology major from Kenosha, is the first tutor at UW Oshkosh to receive certification from the College Reading & Learning Association (CRLA), a group of student-oriented professionals active in the fields of reading, learning assistance, developmental education, tutoring and mentoring at the college/adult level.

The certification included 10 hours of training and evaluation by CAR Director Jan Norton, among other requirements. Engberg received the award Feb. 16.

A science tutor, Engberg consistently receives high ratings from the students with whom she works.

“Tutors must always balance their desire to help with the students’ need to take responsibility for their own learning. Miranda has been very good at finding that balance,” Norton said.
