Graduating senior Jessica Kamrath, of Oshkosh, was selected class speaker for the 2008 University of Wisconsin Oshkosh commencement ceremony. She will give her speech at the ceremony at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 17, for the colleges of Business, Education and Human Services, and Nursing.

Nearly 1,300 undergraduates and graduates will be honored at morning and afternoon commencement ceremonies at Kolf Sports Center, 785 High Ave.

Having previously received a bachelor of arts degree in Speech Communication from UW Oshkosh in 2005, Kamrath “followed her heart” and returned to UW Oshkosh in fall 2006 to pursue a degree in education.

Kamrath will graduate with a grade point average of 4.0 and will earn a bachelor of science degree in speech communication education with an emphasis in English education. Upon graduation, Kamrath will be certified to teach grades six to 12 and plans to pursue a career in high school education.

By delivering the class speech, Kamrath is looking forward to reaching out to the audience and will speak about her experience as both a traditional and then non-traditional student and the deeply personal choices offered by higher education.

“This is a challenging task, but I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to touch such a large group of my peers and their families,” Kamrath said. “I am delighted to have this opportunity.”

A student teacher at Oshkosh North High School, Kamrath also has volunteered as a cross-country, track and field, and forensics coach at the school.
