lucia matosLucia  Matos has appeared as guest conductor with numerous orchestras in the U.S. and  abroad including the Symphony Orchestra of Moldova National Philharmonic, Czech Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, Sinfonica da UNICAMP, Des Moines Symphony, Bloomington Symphony, MIT Symphony, Manhattan School of Music Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonica Municipal de Campinas and Orchestra Sinfonica de Americana. She has been also intensively involved with  opera. Among the operas in her repertoire are La Traviata, Tosca, Le Nozze de Figaro, Die Zauberflotte, Don Giovanni, L’ Elisir d’ Amore and Rigoletto,. This next season she will be the conductor for Cosi fan Tutte at Opera Illinois.

Born in Brazil, she received the Bachelor of Music in conducting from the Universidade Estadual de Campinas - SP, as a student of Henrique Gregori. From 1997 to 1998 she was assistant conductor of the Sinfonica Municipal de Campinas and the Orchestra Sinfonica da Universidade Estadual de Campinas, and in 1998 she was awarded with a fellowship for continuing her musical studies in the United States. She received the Master of Music and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in orchestral conducting from the University of Iowa, as a student of Dr. William LaRue Jones.
