Drew Whiting, Saxophone

WhitingDrew Whiting’s diverse musical interests have led him to perform with symphony orchestras, big bands, new music ensembles, salsa bands, improvisation collectives, chamber ensembles, and solo recitals of traditional and contemporary saxophone works throughout the United States. An advocate for new music, he has worked with composers such as Betsy Jolas, Erik Lund, Pauline Oliveros, and has performed more than twenty world premieres of compositions by established and emerging composers. An accomplished chamber musician, Drew was awarded 1st Place at the 2012 MTNA National Chamber Music Competition as a member of the Cerulean Saxophone Quartet.

In addition to performing, Dr. Whiting is a dedicated and vibrant teacher. He has presented masterclasses at Grand Valley State University, Lawrence Conservatory, Oklahoma State University, and has taught on the faculties of Illinois Wesleyan University and Spring Arbor University. In 2013, Dr. Whiting joined the music faculty at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh as Lecturer of Music, where he teaches courses on music and culture, music theory, and saxophone.

Drew Whiting received Master and Bachelor of Music degrees from the Michigan State University College of Music and completed the Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Drew’s teachers and mentors include Joseph Lulloff and Debra Richtmeyer.
