Brazilian conductor, Lucia Matos has appeared with numerous orchestras in the US and abroad, including the Symphony Orchestra of Moldova National Philharmonic, Bloomington Symphony, MN, Des Moines Symphony, Orquestra Sinfonica Municipal de Campinas and Orquestra Sinfonica de Americana. Her first CD with Andrea Gullickson, oboe and the Czech Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra was released in 2006 by Cala Records (CALA CACD1037). It has received excellent reviews and has been featured by radio stations in more than 15 states throughout the US, Canada and Australia.
Also intensively involved with opera, Lucia Matos was the conductor for Cosi fan tutte and Mad about Mozart (Gala Concert) at Opera Illinois. Her repertoire also includes the operas La Traviata, Tosca, L’Elisir d’Amore, Le Nozze di Figaro, Die Zauberflote, Rigoletto and Samson et Dalilah.
Lucia Matos studied conducting with Henrique Gregori at the Universidade Estadual de Campinas and after graduating she became assistant conductor for two professional orchestras in Brazil (Orquestra da UNICAMP and Sinfonica Municipal de Campinas). In 1998 she was awarded a fellowship to continue her studies in the United States. She received the Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Iowa, as student of Dr. William LaRue Jones.
