Martin

Ed Martin, D.M.A., Associate Professor of Music, teaches composition, music theory, and aural skills.  His compositions have been performed throughout the world at events such as the ISCM World New Music Days in Sydney, World Saxophone Congresses in Scotland and Bangkok, the Seoul International Computer Music Festival, Confluences – Art and Technology at the Edge of the Millennium in Spain, the International Electroacoustic Music Festival Santiago de Chile, and International Computer Music Conferences in Montreal and Athens.  In the U.S., his works have been performed at numerous regional and national music festivals and by ensembles such as the Minnesota Symphony Orchestra, the Synchromy Ensemble, Ear Play, the Empyrean Ensemble, and duoARtia.  His music is recorded on the Mark, Centaur, Parma, innova, Emeritus, and SEAMUS labels, and has received first prize awards in international contests from the Percussive Arts Society, the Electro-Acoustic Miniatures International Contest, and the Craig and Janet Swan Composer Prize for orchestral music.  His work in music theory includes publications on harmonic progression in the music of contemporary composer Magnus Lindberg and the development of a method for timpani tuning drawing upon techniques for aural skills acquisition in collaboration with his colleague Dr. Alison Shaw.

Dr. Martin was Co-Host of the 2012 Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the US National Conference and serves on the board of directors of the Wisconsin Alliance for Composers. He holds degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (D.M.A.), University of Texas at Austin (M.M.), and the University of Florida (B.M.).  Prior to joining the UW Oshkosh faculty in 2007, he taught at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Illinois Wesleyan University.  Visit www.edmartincomposer.com for more information.
