Julia Chybowski, Musicology
Julia J. Chybowski earned a Ph.D. in music history from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is currently Associate Professor of Music at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh where she teaches a wide variety of courses about music history and cultures. Her research interests include nineteenth-century American popular music and the history of music education. She engages in both archival work as well as critical race, gender, and class theory and has presented original research at national and international meetings of the Society for American Music, The American Musicological Society, Feminist Theory and Music Conference, and at numerous college campuses and community events. Her published works can be found in The Grove Dictionary of American Music, Encyclopedia of American Musical Culture, The American Music Research Journal, The Journal of Ethnic History, Journal of Historical Research in Music Education, and The Journal of the American Musicological Society. Besides teaching and research, Chybowski’s service to the UWO campus and to the academic field of musicology shows her interest in pedagogy and educational reform.
