Paula Brusky is an internationally recognized bassoonist, the founding
director of the Bassoon Chamber Music Composition Competition Inc, and a
specialist on injury prevention for musicians. Brusky was awarded the
Endeavor International Postgraduate Research Scholarship to attend the
University of Sydney for a PhD. Her research on injury prevention for
musicians has been presented at the Performing Arts Medicine Association
Conference, the International Double Reed Society Conference, and over
eighteen Universities in the past three years. Recently, Brusky was
named chair of the new task force for “Musician Health in Education” by
the College Music Society.
As a bassoonist, Brusky has performed extensively as a sought after
chamber musician. Tours in 2012 included Memphis, San Francisco, and
multiple cities in Texas. Her first CD, featuring winning works from
the 2010 Bassoon Chamber Music Composition Competition, was released on
MSR Classics in May 2011. The 2012 Bassoon Chamber Music Composition
Competition is underway and winning works will be released on CD in
2013.
Previously, Brusky received a Master of Music and business cognate
from Indiana University and a Bachelor of Music, cum laude, and music
business minor from Northwestern University. Outside of music Brusky
owns a dance fitness studio and has spent more than 9,352 minutes under
the sea as an avid scuba diver.
