The Multicultural Education Coalition

Mission Statement

• The Multicultural Education Coalition strives to promote student leadership and success through fostering a passion for diversity in our community by offering and promoting a variety of cultural experiences and serving as a platform and voice for multicultural issues. (Adopted on 03/01/2005, unanimously)

• What's Our Purpose?

  • Promotion for the integration and acceptance of Diversity is essential on this campus, and the Multicultural Education Coalition strives to provide venues for support and implementation of plans to further this cause.
  • MEC serves as an administrative body, in order to aid all five multicultural groups in the promotion, advertisement, sponsoring, and integration of their various events and activities. In this way, the multiple groups can act together as a single Coalition, and therefore produce a stronger Voice on campus.
  • MEC representatives are also elected to attend OSA, RAC, SLIC, and AODA committee meetings in order voice the opinions of all multicultural groups and to bring back valuable information affecting our campus.

  Why Should I Get Involved?

  • Take advantage of an opportunity to learn about the many cultures represented on our campus, in order to enrich your current knowledge.
  • Contribute to your campus by taking on issues which effect underrepresented students!
  • Joining MEC will give you venues to gain leadership positions!
  • Meet new people you otherwise may not have encountered, and strengthen your perspective by discussing it in a welcome environment.

   

  Can I Join?

  The Multicultural Education Coalition is open to all students. Meetings are usually held every other Monday at 5pm in the MEC House located on Algoma Blvd, across from the Reeve Memorial Union.
