Scholarships at UW Oshkosh

LGBTQ Scholarship Award

This $250 scholarship will be awarded to any continuing UW Oshkosh student that identifies within the LGBTQ community.  Applications are due Monday, April 15 2013 and can be found here: http://www.uwosh.edu/lgbtqcouncil/scholarship.

This scholarship will be awarded at the annual Lavendar Graduation on Thursday, May 2 at 7:00pm at the LGBTQ Resource Center.  If you have any questions, please contact me or Sally Masters (masterss@uwosh.edu), co-chairs, LGBTQ Education & Advocacy Council.

WAEOPP Scholarships

$1,000 WAEOPP scholarships (one to be given to a current undergraduate college student enrolling in fall 2013 and one to a high school senior who is planning to enroll in college fall 2013). One $1,000 MAEOPP Board of Directors Scholarship, and the Silas Purnell Scholarship ($1,000) both which can be given to either a current undergraduate college student or a high school senior enrolling in college fall 2013. The recipient of the Silas Purnell Scholarship must be a student qualifying as low income.

These scholarships cannot be used for graduate school so current college students must be registering for undergraduate education in fall 2013. The scholarship nomination form should come from the staff member who can best attest to the strength of the student, and does not have to be the project director. However the nominator must be a MAEOPP/WAEOPP member! To avoid the committee having to disqualify an application, please verify your membership status. You can view your membership status via the MAEOPP website at www.maeopp.org 

The selection criteria for all four scholarships are identical. They use the same forms and follow the same process. There are three pieces which must be received in order for the application to be complete: The student application and nominator form, both of which can be filled out and submitted on-line and current transcript(s) (an unofficial copy is fine).

Please pay attention to the March 30, 2013 deadline as it will be strictly enforced! If you are not sure we have received all the documentation, please call Rivi at (920)693.1690. If a student requests a transcript from their school, it is their responsibility to follow-up and be sure it was sent. It is not the job of the committee to track down missing information. Applications not complete by the end of the day March 30, 2013 will not be considered.

Mickey Leland Energy Fellowship

The Mickey Leland Energy Fellowship (MLEF), sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Fossil Energy, is a 10-week summer internship program that provides opportunities to minority and female students who are pursuing degrees in science, technology (IT), engineering, or mathematics (STEM majors). Candidates who are selected will have the opportunity to work on focused research projects consistent with the mission of the Office of Fossil Energy.

During the 10 weeks, students will work at one of several locations. At the conclusion of the internship, students will attend a "Technical Forum" where they will present their research project and tour several technical sites located nearby (the location of the technical forum changes every year).

Candidates will receive a paid stipend during the program, in addition to approved transportation expenses to and from the internship site and technical forum location. The MLEF program allows students to gain valuable experience in DOE/FE mission-related research programs, and offers an "inside view" of federal employment which encourages students to consider future opportunities within the Department of Energy.
