Where Are They Now?

Kathryn Baez Scheeler
Kathryn graduated from UW Oshkosh in December 2013 with a Bachelors in Biology - Business Healthcare empthasis. Kathryn participated as a McNair Scholar for two consecutive years, 2009-2011. She conducted research with Dr. Arlene Haffa where her research topic was "Socio-Economic Considerations of Dental Care in Wisconsin." In June 2016, she graduated with her Master of Public Administration - emphasis in Healthcare Administration here at the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh.

Deseray Aguirre (MD)
Deseray graduated from UW Oshkosh in May 2011 with a Bachelors of Science in Biology - Emphasis in Healthcare. As a McNair Scholar, her mentor was Dr. Gregory Kleinheinz and her research topic was "The effects of physical and chemical parameters on the amount of escherichia coli found in surface water. She recently completed her Masters of Science in Nursing at Marquette University in December 2015. Deseray is currently enrolled in her first year of medical school at A.T. Still University in Kirksville, Missouri and her graduation date is set for May 2020. While on breaks, she works as a nurse in the Urgent Care unit.

Troy Landry
Troy graduated from UW Oshkosh in 2011 with a degree in Criminal Justice. As a McNair Scholar, his research mentor was Dr. Norlisha Crawford, Department of English, and his research topic was "The Perpetuation and Preservation of Patriarchy through Gangsta Rap Music." Troy started out in the Women's Studies graduate program at UW Milwaukee and after three semesters, decided to pursue another career path. Our office is awaiting any further information.

Laura Leyh
Laura graduated from UW Oshkosh in May 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology. As a McNair Scholar, Laura's research mentor was Dr. Pete Brown, Department of Religious Studies and Anthropology. Her research topic was "The Path of Teen-aged Parenting." She currently manages a house as a Personal Care worker and has not yet continued schooling, but has recently thought about nursing school.

Tisha Samuel
Tisha graduated from UW- Oshkosh in May 2013 with a degree in Psychology. As a McNair Scholar for two consecutive years, 2009-2011, she conducted research with Dr. Elizabeth Cannon. Tisha researched two topics throughout both years: "Differences in perceived job qualification based on ethnicity" and "Women's Experiences of Mental illness in the United States During the 19th Century." She is currently working and has plans to continue school next year.

Hope Schuhart
Hope graduated from UW-Oshkosh in May 2011 with a degree in Political Science. As a McNair Scholar, her research mentor was Dr. Michael Jasinski.  Hope's research topic was "Social Desirability in Bias Surveys and Online Discussions of Civic Engagement in American Teens and Emerging Adults." Hope began in her PhD program at Arizona State University in Physical Anthropology and later decided to switch plans to pursue a career path as a Data Specialist.

Rick Wheatley
Rick graduated from UW-Oshkosh in December 2010 with a degree in Anthropology. As a McNair Scholar, his research mentor was Dr. Stephanie May de Montigny, Department of Religious Studies & Anthropology. Rick's research focused on ethnographic data regarding the Grand Opera House of Oshkosh, Wisconsin. He began a Masters in Anthropology at Northern Illinois University, but was unable to complete his studies due to inadequate funding. After running his own business for several years, he has decided to pursue an MBA in Accounting at UW Oshkosh. He hopes to begin his studies in the fall of 2017.
