PAID Volunteers Needed for a Mathematics Teaching Research Study

  • Get paid $200 for just eight hours of your time!
  • Open to teachers in grades 4-8 who teach mathematics

If you choose to participate, you will come to UW Oshkosh for a half-day session on either Tuesday June 29, 2010 or Thursday July 8, 2010, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and complete several surveys about teaching mathematics, including items asking about your practice and beliefs about teaching and learning mathematics and the mathematics knowledge used inteaching mathematics effectively.

Then, one year later, we will conduct a similar follow-up study with another half-day session in June 2011. Several dates will be available for you to choose from. You will not be asked to do anything for the project during the year between these sessions. If you choose to participate, we will ask for a commitment to attending both one of the upcoming summer 2010 sessions and one of the follow-up June 2011 sessions.

You will be paid $80 for your participation in the preliminary session in June 2010, and paid $120 for your participation in the follow-up session in June 2011.

If you live outside of Oshkosh, mileage from your city to/from UW Oshkosh will be reimbursed at 36.5 cents/mile.
We will provide snacks and refreshments (e.g. offee, juice, pastries).

This study is being conducted by the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh as part of its evaluation of its professional development program for mathematics teachers. This research study is overseen by the UW Oshkosh Institutional Review Board. All data collected will be kept confidential, and used only for the purposes of this research study. In particular, your results on these surveys and assessments will not be shared with your school or school district.
