Manually uploading files

Login to the UW System Media Pilot. Click on the "My Media" link at the top of the screen. You will be taken to a page containing thumbnails of the files you have already added to MediaSpace. At the top left of the screen is a blue button labeled "+ Upload Video." Click on this link to start the upload process.

You will be presented with three tabs for upload: Video, Audio, Photo. Choose the tab most appropriate to the content you are loading. Choose the browse button, located beneath the "upload video" header. This will open an "open file" dialog box. Browse your computer to find the file you wish to upload. Click Open to load the file to the uploader. Click the upload button at the bottom left corner of the window. A progress bar will be displayed as the file uploads. When upload is completed, click the next button in the bottom right corner of the window.

Enter the information requested in the next window. Please do not change the "created by:" field. This may cause problems in the system.

Title is required, description is not. Under categories choose "UW Institutions>5_Oshkosh"

Checking the Private checkbox is not really necessary. If you check this, the file will be disassociated from any institutions and be unsearchable from within the MediaSpace site.

Tags are not required, but are very useful for searching for or grouping content. If you are adding files for inclusion in a course that you are capturing lecture video for, adding the course OU number as a tag will cause it to appear in the playlist widget within your D2L course.

Click "Done" when all information is entered.

Embedding files in web pages

Login to the UW System Media Pilot. Click on the "My Media" link at the top of the screen. You will be taken to a page containing thumbnails of the files you have already added to MediaSpace. Click on the video that you wish to embed. The video will appear in a bigger window at the bottom of the screen. Choose the "Get Embed Code" link beneath the video.

Select the Player skin that you wish to use, and the player size. MediaSpace will generate an embed code for you. Copy this from the text box on the page. Paste it into the HTML for the page you want to embed the file in.

Embedding files in D2L

Login to the UW System Media Pilot. Click on the "My Media" link at the top of the screen. You will be taken to a page containing thumbnails of the files you have already added to MediaSpace. Click on the video that you wish to embed. The video will appear in a bigger window at the bottom of the screen. Choose the "Get Embed Code" link beneath the video.

Select the Player skin that you wish to use, and the player size. MediaSpace will generate an embed code for you. Copy this from the text box on the page. Switch over to D2L.

Within a content item in D2L, choose the "Insert Stuff" button. Choose "embed code" from the menu on the left. Paste the code into this field. Insert and save the item.

Manually Creating playlists and adding videos to the playlist

Login to the UW System Media Pilot. Click on the "My Media" link at the top of the screen. You will be taken to a page containing thumbnails of the files you have already added to MediaSpace. Click on the video that you wish to add to a playlist. The video will appear in a bigger window at the bottom of the screen. Choose the "Add to Playlists" link beneath the video.

You will be presented with a list of the playlists you have already created. Check the box next to the ones you wish to add the file to and click "apply." If you need to create a new playlist, choose the "Create New Playlist" link to the right side of the screen.

Tagging Files

Login to the UW System Media Pilot. Click on the "My Media" link at the top of the screen. You will be taken to a page containing thumbnails of the files you have already added to MediaSpace. Click on the video that you wish to tag. The video will appear in a bigger window at the bottom of the screen. Choose the "Details" link beneath the video.

Choose "Edit Details" from the right side of the tab. Tags can be added at the bottom of the dialouge that follows. Seperate tags with a comma. If you are adding files for inclusion in a course that you are capturing lecture video for, adding the course OU number as a tag will cause it to appear in the playlist widget within your D2L course.

Private Content

Login to the UW System Media Pilot. Click on the "My Media" link at the top of the screen. You will be taken to a page containing thumbnails of the files you have already added to MediaSpace. Click on the video that you wish to make private. The video will appear in a bigger window at the bottom of the screen. Choose the "Details" link beneath the video.

Choose "Edit Details" from the right side of the tab. Check the "Private" tab on the dialogue that appears. Click Apply
