Overview and Diversifying Fund Development:

Instructor:  Jennifer Skolaski, Ph.D.

This course will discuss what your organization needs in terms of funding, what you want funding for, and how to gain supportive funding for your programs. The strategies will include diversifying your funding stream by balancing the number of grants one writes, asks of foundation and corporation gifts, as well as how many events your organization puts on. The course will also discuss how to conduct research around fund development, online giving, and how to leverage your funds by partnering with other organizations.

Fund Development Research

This course delves into how one searches for funding opportunities and researching donors in an ethical way. Topics may include: research of foundation and corporation gifts, grant opportunities, top donors in your area, and other data that may identify potential donors in your community.

Special Events and Friend-Raising

Expect to go over all different kinds of special fundraising and friend-raising events. We’ll discuss the planning of these events, gaining sponsorships, working with committees, and evaluating. We’ll also discuss what to do when you have limited resources, when to build friends, and when to use events to thank your donors and volunteers.

This session gives anyone the complete run down of grants. From researching grant opportunities, explaining how to apply for grants, going through the process of writing a grant, and then discussing what happens after you get the grant, this workshop will make anyone an expert at the grant process.

 

Major Donors

Ever wonder how to gain or work with major donors? This workshop will discuss what a major gift is, how to manage the gift and the donor, as well as discuss planned giving opportunities. Maintaining these donors takes time, so we will also discuss major donor stewardship and what is expected of you and your staff.

The workshop will discuss building donor relationships, working with donors and the process from asking to thanking your donors.  

 

Nonprofit Communications

Instructor: Julie Henderson, Ph.D.

Every organization needs to work on communication. For nonprofits this means not only communication internally with staff, volunteers, and board members, but also externally through social media, news media relations, strategic marketing, and brand management. This workshop will describe a variety of communication tools and skills, from basic writing errors to tips to becoming a better communicator.
