Warning concerning copyright restrictions:
The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request of, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use", that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgement, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
Services for Other Libraries
The Interlibrary Loan department of Polk Library also provides material to other libraries in accordance with the above-mentioned law and codes. Loans of books, government documents, and some microforms are possible. Reference, reserve, and special collections do not circulate. Loans and photocopies are free to members of reciprocal consortia (FVLC, FRVALC, LVIS, NEWIL, NEW ERA, UW-SYSTEM, WILS) and libraries with special agreements. All other U.S. and Canadian libraries pay $10.00 per item. International loans and copies are $40.00.
Requests may be submitted via OCLC (symbol: GZO), ALA or IFLA forms, or fax. (The on-line forms above are NOT to be used by borrowing libraries). Wisconsin consortial non-OCLC libraries that are not already registered to use ILLiad should call 920-424-3348. The use of OCLC's IFM is preferred, but invoices will be sent at no extra charge. There is no extra charge for faxing of photocopies or sending PDFs via email.
