Course Specific Resources

Searching Tips

  1. Try starting with a search for your sport or food in a reference source. Identify a sub-topic related to geography. For example, when I do a background search on boxing, I see that the sport is heavily concentrated in cities, among the poor and working class.
  2. When searching, try "Your chosen sport/food + history" or "your chosen sport + invention"; when searching online try search for your food or fruit/Sport + Association. For example: "pear association"
  3. Per the assignment instructions:
    • "You could explore (for food):
      • the geographic differences in where the food is grown or processed
      • the geographic differences in consumption patterns
      • the diffusion of food items from their point of origin
      • Or import/ export patterns
    • "You could trace (for sport):
      • A sport and analyze it from a geographical point of view
      • The origin and diffusion of the sport
      • Origin of the players or the location of the team
      • The impact of a stadium on the local economy
