**Tip: start with references sources and identify the keywords for the author (For eg. Jacob Riis,

slum dwelling, welfare reform)

-Be sure to be on the look out for different keywords or phrases. (instead of "native american casinos,

 you'll read more about "tribal casinos" 

-Be ready to adjust your topic slightly according to your discovered information. 

-Look at catalog tags for alternative keywords

-further refine your search with filters on the left side of the catalog. 

-Be sure to use quotation marks to keep phrases together. Such as: "Native American Women"

-Pay attention to number of results (if in the thousands, refine by date or sub-topic)
