Traditional Reserve

Books, articles, videos and sound recordings can be placed on traditional reserve. Items on reserve are shelved at the Circulation desk and check out for time periods ranging from 2 hours to 14 days depending on the request of the instructor. To place items on reserve, faculty are encouraged to submit items at least one (1) week before the intended use during the semester. Please allow extra time for processing at the start of the semester. All items are processed in order of their receipt.

Instructors may place Polk Library owned materials on reserve. Go to the Polk Library Catalog to locate CALL NUMBER, AUTHOR and TITLE.

For the most rapid Reserve service, retrieve the items from the shelves and bring them to the Circulation/Reserve desk. (Please ask for a book truck if you have many items to collect). Fill out a Reserve Materials Form (PDF).

If the items have less urgency, the request may be submitted electronically. To submit a reserve request electronically, click to go to the On-Line Reserve Materials Form. Fill in the form completely. When finished click on "Submit your Reserve Request." Polk reserve staff will retrieve the items that you have requested and place them on reserve.

Instructors may also place material from their personal collection on reserve. Print the Reserve Materials Form (PDF). Items may be brought to the Circulation/Reserve Desk or sent through campus mail. Remember to include the Reserve Material form.

Electronic Reserve

Articles from journals, chapters from books, syllabi, lecture notes, exams or other material created by the faculty member can be posted to electronic reserve. A copy of the original document is scanned and converted into a PDF, which is saved on a server. This file is linked to the library's catalog system so that the item may be found by searching the eReserve option in the on-line library catalog.

Students are able to access eReserve readings at any time of the day or night from any computer with Internet access.

How may requests be submitted for eReserve?

All items must be clean, free from gray shadow areas and have a complete bibliographic citation on each title page, preferably below the title. All reserve requests must be accompanied by a Reserve Materials Form (PDF).
