Adding citations to RefWorks from a database - off-campus
RefWorks allows for direct exportation of a citation from most of Polk Library's databases into your account. However, the direct export feature is not currently functional for off-campus users. Read the text and screen captions below to learn how to add a citation from a database into your RefWorks account from off-campus.
1) To add a citation from a subject database such as Academic Search Complete, click on a title in the results list:

2) On the next screen, note in the"Tools" menu along the right of the screen the "Export" option, and click on the link:

3) You'll now be presented with the "Export Manager" screen. Select "Direct Export in RIS Format", then click the Save button:

4) Save the exported RIS file to your computer. Depending on your browser settings, the file may automatically download to your computer. Make note of the file name and where on your computer the file is saved.
5) If you're not already logged into your RefWorks account, log in through the library website with your NetID and password. Once logged in, click on "Import" under "Quick Access" in the right column.

6) The "Import References" screen will appear. Choose "RIS Format" in the drop down menus for both the "Import Filter/Data Source" and the "Database." Click the "Choose File" button and browse your computer to select the RIS file you downloaded from the database. Leave the "Encoding" option as-is. Then, click the Import button.
