Guided Search Builder
Guided Search Builder leads students through defining a research topic, breaking it down into key concepts and finding related terms, while watching a boolean search query form as they type. They can then submit the search directly to one of Polk Library's most used research tools. Guided Search Builder can be used with verbose, step-by-step guidance during information literacy instruction, or without guidance, simply as a tool to build complex queries.
The project was created by a STEP student in 2013, with several rounds of UI design. The single-page app is built with HTML, CSS and jQuery.
Thanks the University of Texas at Austin for the Primo How to Generate Keywords tool which inspired Polk librarian Stephen Katz to ask LTS to adapt this project with local variations, including links to our own research tools. We copied the U Texas's original idea and basic workflow.
