Introduction to ILL through ILLiad

No paper forms

All ILL transactions must be done using online forms. The ILLiad system simplifies the collecting of requests by ILL staff, and expedites passing on requests to other libraries. The other UW System libraries also use this system.

What ILLiad will do

Interlibrary Loan allows you to obtain books, theses, and other materials from other libraries, and to obtain copies of articles, usually at no cost to you. ILLiad also links into an electronic article delivery system.

How you get to ILLiad

Follow the link on the Interlibrary Loan Page

What you need to log on to ILLiad

You will need a current, active TitanCard.  If you have checked out any library materials in the recent past, your card is active. If you are able to log on to “Your Record” in the library catalog, your card is active. If your TitanCard is not active, you will need to come to the Circulation Desk to have it activated. After one business day, you’ll be ready to start using ILLiad.

Requesting a book or article

  1. Log on to ILLiad using your TitanCard number and last name. At the main menu, click the "Request a Book" or "Request a Photocopy" option.
  2. Enter as much information as possible about the item you are requesting. If you have additional information that doesn’t fit in the categories given, enter it in the "Notes" field.
  3. When ready, click "Submit Request." If you spot something that needs changing after you have done that, you can edit the request.
  4. The main menu will reappear after you submit a request. You can then request another item, or click "Exit ILLiad System" at the top of the main menu. For security reasons, close your browser after exiting ILLiad.
  5. All ILLiad correspondence will be sent to your official UW Oshkosh email account.

For multiple requests

You will need to submit a form for each item or article you need. Each request is handled individually.

Checking the status of a request

  1. Log on to ILLiad, and move to the section Review Requests to view the status of your request. Select the appropriate category for your request.
  2. Select the request you wish to check on by clicking the number at the left.
  3. When finished, click the Exit the ILLiad System option at the top of the main menu. For security reasons, close your browser after exiting ILLiad.

To edit or cancel a request

  1. Log on to ILLiad, and click "View/Modify Outstanding Requests" to display your requests in process. You may edit or cancel those requests that do NOT say "Request Sent." Select the request you wish to edit or cancel by clicking the number at the left.
  2. When the detailed request information appears, click "Edit Request" or "Cancel Request" at the top right-hand corner of the page. If editing a request, make the necessary changes to the form, and then click "Submit Request" at the bottom of the page.
  3. If you cancel a request, the main menu will then reappear displaying a message confirming your cancellation. You can resubmit cancelled requests with the "View/ Resubmit Cancelled Requests" option.
  4. When finished, click the Exit the ILLiad System option at the top of the main menu. For security reasons, close your browser after exiting ILLiad.

To renew an item you have borrowed

  1. Log on to ILLiad and click on Checked Out Items. Choose one of the items, and click to see detailed information about that request.
  2. Near the bottom of the details, there is a question "Renewals allowed?" If this indicates that renewals are allowed for this item, click Request Renewal at the top right-hand corner.
  3. After requesting a renewal (one renewal is the limit), check the status bar to make sure your request has been received. Once the item has been renewed by the lending library, you will receive an email from ILL staff with the new due date. Please note that this may take a few days.
  4. Either Return to the List to view more items, or Exit to the Main Menu, then choose Exit the ILLiad System. For security reasons, close your browser after exiting ILLiad.

Hints for troubleshooting

  • If your TitanCard is active but you’re having trouble logging on, make sure your 16-digit TitanCard number is typed correctly. Your last name should be in all lower-case letters. Make sure your CAPS LOCK key is off.
  • Clicking the Logon button more than once slows down the system; click only once.
  • DO NOT USE YOUR BROWSER’S BACK BUTTON.
