Using the catalog
From the library homepage, you can use the "Books & Videos" tab to search the catalog and find books, DVDs, journals, and other items located in Polk Library. Note that you may filter by type of collection or publication date in the dropdown menu beneath the main search box (highlighted in red). Click "Find" to perform your search (highlighted in blue):

The catalog will return all results which contain your search term in the most common fields such as title, subject, author, or synopsis. Note that when relevant, the result also lists the format --book, eBook, etc.-- of the resource (highlighted in red), as well as its call number and location (highlighted in green):

Click on a link to view the item's full catalog record. In the item's record you'll find additional helpful information such as the chapters or sections of a book, any notes about the item, and the subject headings under which the item was cataloged. Clicking on the subject headings (highlighted in red) often yield additional results which will be related to the item at which you're looking:

Finally, you may virtually browse items located around the item at which you're looking, by scrolling down to the bottom of the item's record and viewing the Virtual Shelf Browser. You can scroll forward and backward by clicking the left and right arrow buttons (highlighted in red), in addition to looking up reviews of the book on Google Books. This is an excellent way to find additional resources on your subject without having to do a lot of extra work!
