Students who regularly visit campus should pick up hard copies of books and articles in person at Polk Library. All students may request books and articles via InterLibrary Loan, while delivery service is an option for students fitting the description above.

Services Provided via InterLibrary Loan

Email, fax, or postal delivery of journal and newspaper articles -- Articles can be emailed, faxed or snail-mailed to students. If Polk Library does not have a copy of the article, it will be requested from another library. In this instance, students should anticipate that delivery of the article could take a week or so. Please make sure you note that you are a "DE" student when filling out the ILL request form. See our interlibrary loan policies and procedures for more information and to access the online request form.

Postal delivery of books -- Books can be mailed to distance students. Due dates for Polk Library books are the same as for on-campus students. See the Polk Library circulation department page for current loan periods and policies. Books can be returned to Polk Library, to any other UW Library throughout the state, or to most public libraries in Wisconsin (please double-check with your local public library -- ask if they can send it back through the "red box"). Please make sure you note that you are a "DE" student when filling out the ILL request form. See our interlibrary loan policies and procedures for more information and to access the online request form.

Microfilm, reference books, archives/geneological items -- These items cannot be delivered to students. You may wish to come to Polk Library to use these materials, or contact your local university or public library for availability in your area.

Other Sources of Articles and Books

You may also want to try locating the information you need from these sources:

  • Journal and newspaper article databases -- Many articles are available full-text online through these library databases. Check the list of online journals to see where to find the full-text of the journal or newspaper you're looking for.
  • Other UW System libraries -- If it's closer and more convenient for you, visit a different UW library. You can check out materials from any other University of Wisconsin library with your current UW Oshkosh Titan card. Check with your local UW library for their loan periods and policies.
  • Your local public library -- Your local public library may have some of the materials you need, or they may be able to get interlibrary loan materials to you faster. Check the Directory of USA Public Libraries to find the website of your local public library.
  • Check WorldCat for local availability -- WorldCat searches the catalogs of hundreds of libraries across Wisconsin and the United States. Click on the title of the item in the results list for nearby college and public libraries that own the item you need.
