Within UW System -- Search@UW and Universal Borrowing (UB)

New: Search for 17 Million items from across UW System in the "Articles Books & More" box above. When you find an item from another campus, click the Request tab and sign in with your NetID to place a Universal Borrowing request.

With a typical delivery time of 2-5 days, Universal Borrowing is the fastest way to get books and other circulating items that you can't get from Polk Library.   With UB, you have access to the materials in the libraries of all 26 of the University of Wisconsin System Universities.  You also have the added convenience of being able to choose a pickup library other than Polk Library if another UW System Library is closer to you.

de.gif Distance Education students and instructors should only use Universal Borrowing if you are able to pick up your items at a UW System Library; items requested through Universal Borrowing cannot be mailed to you. If you need an item mailed to you, please request that item through Interlibrary Loan.

Beyond UW System -- Search@UW, WorldCat & Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

By using Interlibrary Loan, you can request journal articles, books and more from other libraries across the country and even worldwide.

expand_results.pngNew: Search articles worldwide within Search@UW. Use the search box above and click "Expand My Results" to include articles that you can Interlibrary Loan from libraries around the world. When you find the right item, click the Find It tab to create an Interlibrary Loan Request.

To search Books & Media beyond the UW System, use Worldcat to search for materials and use the Place an ILL request link to request your materials easily.

If you can't find an item through any of these methods, use Interlibrary Loan to request it directly.  Before making a request, please verify that we do not already own what you are looking for.

de.gif Distance Education users may borrow print materials owned by Polk Library by requesting them through Interlibrary Loan. Items will be mailed to your preferred address. Mailed items are subject to standard loan periods. Microfilm, reference books, and archives/geneological items cannot be delivered to students. You may wish to come to Polk Library to use these materials, or contact your local university or public library for availability in your area.
