Citing sources and ethically using information

This module teaches students the importance of using information ethically and effectively, the different uses of citations, and how to distinguish between different parts of a citation. By the end of this module, students should be able to:

  • Understand why it is important to cite information, both from an ethical standpoint as well as a practical standpoint
  • Distinguish between different elements in a citation
  • Determine a source's citation elements in a decontextualized version of that source (i.e. a book chapter online, or article on eReserve)
  • Different methods of citing sources to support an argument
