UW Oshkosh LGBTQA+ Alumni Chapter Mentoring Program

The LGBTQ+ Alumni Chapter Board and the LGBTQ Resource Center would like to invite current UW Oshkosh LGBTQ+/GSRD students to participate in a mentoring program that we hope will prepare you for life after graduation.  We thank all of the LGBTQ+ alumni who have volunteered to be mentors and hope our current students, once they have graduated, will also lend a hand to those who come after them.

Mission:

  • Empower UW Oshkosh LGBTQA+ students on their journey to graduation and beyond
  • Foster mutually beneficial connections between alumni and students

Vision:

  • Connect students with positive, professional LGBTQ+ role models
  • Enrich lives through collaboration
  • Uphold the spirit of mentorship

Benefits of the Program:

The mentee

  • Gains insight into their professional and/or academic aspirations
  • Learns about opportunities in their field
  • Connects to others through networking
  • Hones skills and receives useful feedback
  • How to be LGBTQA+ in the world and the workplace, “how to adult”
  • Grows in their LGBTQA+ identity
  • Learns ways to navigate your identity after college

The mentor

  • Uses their own experiences to provide meaningful guidance
  • Practices leadership skills
  • Teaches, advises, and leads by example
  • Maintains a personal connection with their alma mater

Students

To become a mentee, please fill out the registration form.  Liz Cannon, the director of the LGBTQ Resource Center, will then email you a PowerPoint training that will explain how the program works and what you need to know to participate and a quiz on this information.  Once you have completed the training and emailed the quiz back to her, she will send you the link to access the mentor profiles.

Alumni

To become a mentor, please fill out the registration form.  Liz Cannon, the director of the LGBTQ Resource Center, will then email you a PowerPoint training that will explain how the program works and what you need to know to participate, a quiz on this information, and profile form.  Once you have completed the training, please email the quiz and profile back to her.
