    The 2009 yearbook competition rules and entry form are now online. The deadline to enter your spring books is June 30, and the deadline for fall books is Sept. 30. Click here for more information.

    2009 conference presentations now available on iTunes University; speaker Powerpoints, handouts also online
    Sessions from four speakers at the 2009 NEWSPA conference can now be downloaded and viewed on iTunes University. Click here to download the audio or video podcasts.

    Speaker Powerpoints and handouts are also being put online as they are submitted. Go to the resources page (see button on left) and type in the password that was e-mailed to you earlier.

    Adviser/Teacher resource page ready to help you in the classroom
    NEWSPA has added a resources page (see button on left) that includes podcasts from previous conferences and links to other journalism organizations. But the page also includes a members-only benefit: Powerpoints, lectures, assignments and more from journalism instructors that you can use in your classroom. Advisers at member schools were already e-mailed their password and log-in name. If your school is a member and you did not receive an e-mail, contact us at newspa@uwosh.edu.

    NEWSPA is now on Twitter ... it's another way to keep in touch
    NEWSPA is now on Twitter, a free service that lets you keep in touch through the exchange of quick, frequent notes of what is happening. Go to http://twitter.com/NEWSPA and click on "Join Today." It's a great way to be reminded of deadlines and keep on top of other NEWSPA news.

    High school students eligible for "Free Spirit" scholarships
    The Al Neuharth Free Spirit Scholarship and Journalism Conference program annually awards $1,000 college scholarships to high school seniors who are interested in pursuing a career in journalism and who demonstrate qualities of “free spirit.” The deadline has passed for the 2009 scholarship/conference program, but details on the 2010 scholarship/conference will be added here as they become available.

    Apply by July 1 for Journalism Teacher of Year

    The Dow Jones Newspaper Fund is seeking applicants for High School Journalism Teacher of the Year. The postmark deadline is July 1. Applicants must answer 14 questions, and include a resume, a color head shot and six sets of two issues of the paper or online edition. Click here for more information and the application form.

    Indiana University offers Summer 2009 teacher workshops
    Indiana University's High School Journalism Institute is offering teacher workshops during Summer 2009 that are worth two or three graduate credits. Workshops include:
    •June 15-19: Reinvent & Redesign your Publication or Yearbook Advising
    •June 22-26: Law & Ethics for the Student Press or Digital Photography & Photo Editing
