    Spring Conference April 22, 2009

    Dear Adviser,

The NEWSPA Board of Directors has put together another outstanding Spring Conference for high school journalists and their advisers. The conference is Wednesday, April 22, on the UW Oshkosh campus.

Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. in the hallway area outside the Reeve Union Ballroom 227 on the second floor. Schools that have preregistered may pick up their packets, including programs, nametags and adviser materials, at the registration tables. After registering, you may proceed to the first session, which starts at 8:30 a.m.

We will again offer sessions at three times — 8:30 a.m., 9:20 a.m. and 10:10 a.m. — and a keynote speaker at 11 a.m. Professional journalists and high school and college students and faculty will present the various 40-minute sessions. The advisers' meeting/luncheon will begin at 11:45 a.m. in Reeve Union 201.

The awards ceremonies start at 1 p.m. and should end around 1:30 p.m. The ceremony for small and medium schools will be held in Reeve Union Ballroom 227 B/C, and the large schools ceremony is in Reeve Union Ballroom 227 A/B.

This year NEWSPA will again present two $500 scholarships to recognize the accomplishments and contributions of two deserving high school journalism students at the awards ceremonies. The scholarship criteria and an application form are linked below. The deadline to apply is April 1, 2009.

Until funds run out, a Diversity Innovation Grant will continue to provide FREE conference registration to minority students and minority advisers. Funding is getting low, and is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The registration form is to be filled out for each minority student and minority adviser attending the April 22 conference. The registration form is linked below.

Also included is a link below for the 2009 preliminary session schedule. Students are on their own for lunch. The Reeve Memorial Union offers a variety of food in the food court, and there are also fast food places close to campus on Wisconsin Street.

Registration fees for the 2009 conference are as follows:
