Sara Marquardt, President (2015)
Reflections (yearbook)

Sara Marquardt teaches English at Oshkosh North High School. She serves as the editorial adviser for Reflections yearbook and the business adviser for the North Star newspaper.

Sara graduated from UW Oshkosh in 2000 and Marian University in 2005. She likes to crochet as well as write books, poetry and short stories.

Amy Karoses

The Notebook (yearbook)

Amy Karoses teaches English at Oshkosh West High School and is the school’s yearbook adviser.

Having completed her “first career” as a full-time mom, she is immensely enjoying her second career in education.

Susan Carlson
The Hi-Light (newspaper)

Susan is the Green Bay East High School newspaper adviser of The Hi-Light. She has worked at the Post-Crescent News Record as an editorial clerk and is now an English teacher.

She enjoys reading, swimming, walking, jogging, camping with her family, quilting and attending her children's sporting events.

Lucas Cleary

Hi-Lights (newspaper)

Lucas Cleary teaches English at Plymouth High School. He has been the adviser of the student newspaper, Hi-Lights, for seven years.

As a board member Cleary said he hopes to make the NEWSPA conference the best experience for young journalists. He enjoys running, reading, hiking, camping and carpentry.

Jason Cummings teaches English at Oshkosh North


High School. He has been at Oshkosh North since


2006, where he also serves as the adviser for the


school newspaper, The North Star.

Emma Slowinski 
The Paw (yearbook)

Emma Slowinski teaches English at Ashwaubenon High School and is the school’s yearbook adviser.

She enjoys running, sewing, reading, and taking her two boxer dogs Beasley and Halpert on walks.

Shannon Kuehmichel

Shannon Kuehmichel
Red 'n' Green (newspaper)

Shannon Kuehmichel, a 2002 UW-Eau Claire graduate, teaches English and publications at Berlin High School.

She is the newspaper adviser of Red ‘n’ Green and says she loves seeing her students’ work in print. She also likes ballet class, bicycling and reading.

Aaron Ramponi

Aaron Ramponi
The Noctiluca (newspaper)

Aaron Ramponi has been teaching English for the Appleton Area School District for three years, in that time serving at both North and East high schools. During the 2010-11 school year, Aaron was co-adviser of The Noctiluca, North’s student newspaper, and beginning with the 2011-12 school year, will be the fulltime adviser.

Before becoming a teacher and adviser, Aaron worked for about 10 years in journalism, most recently as a newspaper editor for the Green Bay Press-Gazette. He graduated from UW Oshkosh as an English major and completed his teacher certification at Concordia University.

Trent Scott


The Index (Newspaper)

Trent Scott advises the Index of Oshkosh West High School. He has served on the NEWSPA board in years past, including a stint as president. He will be entering his twentieth year as an educator and has spent each of those years as an adviser, a role that brings great pleasure and fulfillment from year to year.

Scott, who also serves as department chair for the English Department at West, is married with two children. When he is not teaching or grading papers, he is probably remodeling something in his new home.

Matt Smith


Cardinal Columns (Newspaper)




Matthew Smith advises the Cardinal Columns at Fond du Lac High School, where he has taught English and journalism since 2010. Prior to that, he taught high school English in Maryland for five years.

Before becoming an educator, Matthew spent several years as a writer and designer, including two years as a reporter for a weekly newspaper in suburban Washington, DC. He graduated from the University of Missouri, Columbia, with a degree in journalism and earned a Masters of Education from the University of Maryland, College Park.
