Writing/Reporting/Editing

  • Scripps Howard Foundation - Spring and Summer 2015. Fall 2015 Work with an experienced editor to choose, report and edit stories. Interns also produce multimedia stories using social media, blogs, online stories, videos and slideshows. Deadline for spring and internship is Nov. 1. Deadline for Fall is March 15, 2015. Internships include stipend and free housing.
  • The Boston Globe — Summer 2015. The largest group of interns work in Metro on general assignment; other intern reporters are assigned to Sports/Living/Arts, Health/Science and Business. They also have intern positions in the photography and graphics departments, and on the copy desk. All students currently enrolled in an undergraduate program or who will be graduating in May or June may apply, as well as journalism graduate school students who have NOT had professional journalism experience.   • ASME Magazine Summer InternshipSummer 2015. For nearly 50 years, the American Society of Magazine Editors has sponsored this 10-week program for rising college students at magazines in New York and Washington, D.C. Apply by Dec. 1, 2014.
  • FOX CITIES Magazine, Fall 2014 — Assist with research, update calendars and guides, organize copy, proofread, fact-check, set-up and conduct interviews with sources, contribute to blog and social media outlets, and more.
  • Raw Story, Ongoing. — Seeking journalism fellows and interns who have a sincere passion for news, politics, civil rights and government accountability.   • Stellar Blue Technologies —  Organize, create and follow-through on social media marketing, email marketing, content generation and analytical research. Part-time position, but could go full time upon graduation.

    • Polk Library — Develop and write library news stories for a traditional newsletter as well as on-line applications. Design and develop promotional advertisements for print, online and CampusVision applications, and assist in the development of library-wide communication and PR strategies. 8-10 hours a week. Paid.     • General Motors, Summer 2015 — Learn and hone skills in media relations, internal communications, speech writing, event planning and more. Apply by Oct. 24, 2014.
    • National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Chicago/Midwest Chapter — Assist director with public relations, marketing, fundraising, writing, scheduling and action planning for NATAS activities, work on development of website, and more. Ongoing internship.
