Emphasis on Professionalism
The journalism department strives to create a professional atmosphere in the education of its students. Students are encouraged to join clubs sponsored by the Society of Professional Journalists, the American Advertising Federation, and the Public Relations Society of America. Joining these clubs starts journalism students on the path toward remaining members of these important professional organizations after graduation. Classes in the journalism department are also conducted in a professional setting.
Journalism and Public Relations majors use the same computer programs and tools that they will use in their future careers. Classes are set in a deadline-driven environment to simulate a newsroom or ad agency. Finally the internship and competition courses offered by the department give students a real professional experience and an opportunity to build their resumes.
The UW Oshkosh Department of Journalism is currently revising our strategic plan that was approved on Jan. 11, 2011. Please view this document for the vision, mission and core values of our program that was approved on June 5, 2015.
