2005-2006 Technology Fee Projects No Fee Library PrintingThe Student Technology Fee will continue to fund “no fee” laser printing in Polk Library for students using electronic information resources. These printers are located in the Reference, Educational Media Collection, Government Documents, and E-Reserves service areas. The Technology Fee will also purchase a new, duplex laser printer to replace an older, single-sided printer. Funding: $19,500. General Computer Access (GCA) Lab Hardware UpgradeThe Student Technology Fee will fund the purchase of Intel-based PCs with flat panel monitors. When combined with the annual General Computer Access funds, the combined computer purchases will continue the GCA labs, with 465 total computers, on a three-year replacement cycle. Funding: $54,473. Presentations Lab UpgradeStudent Technology Fee funds will be used to purchase additional equipment and software for the Presentations Lab (this Lab was created four years ago with Student Technology Fee support). Purchases will include two new PCs and one new Macintosh computers, additional software, two digital video cameras, four new scanners, and equipment to extend wireless networking to the Presentations Lab. Funding: $9,900. General Access Computer Lab Laser Printing SupportThe Student Technology Fee will continue to fund support costs for thirteen laser printers located in the General Access computer labs. Funds will cover costs of paper, toner cartridges, and printer maintenance. Funding: $77,871. Software for General Access Computer LabsThe Student Technology Fee will fund licensing of new or upgraded software applications for the General Access computer labs. Funding: $30,000. Residence Hall Computer Lab UpgradesThe Student Technology Fee will fund a number of upgrades to computer labs in he Residence Halls, including: Residence Hall computer lab laser printing support, replacing front desk laser printers in nine Residence Halls, and providing a wireless access point in Scott Hall’s “Stone Willie’s” restaurant. Funding: $13,037. Dempsey 130 Student Computer Printing SupportA new 20-computer lab has been installed in Dempsey 130. Jointly managed by the Registrar’s Office and the Undergraduate Advising Resource Center (UARC), this lab will be used by students for online registration and advising services. The Student Technology Fee will provide support for two laser printers in the lab. Funding: $10,000. Upgrades for the SLICThe Student Technology Fee will provide funding for a number of upgrades to the Student Leadership & Involvement Center (SLIC), including: paper and toner for the printers in the SLIC, providing a wireless antenna to extend wireless networking to the SLIC, and purchase of a Macintosh computer. Funding: $6,195. Radio/TV/Film Streaming Media Network UpgradeThe Student Technology Fee will fund an infrastructure upgrade to the Arts & Communications Center that will support streaming media from WRST-FM, the University’s radio station. This streaming media will benefit all commuter students. Funding: $13,116. Technology Advances for the Women’s CenterThe Student Technology Fee will fund a networked printer and a video projector for the Women’s Center. This technology will be available to all student organizations that use space in the Women’s Center. Funding: $2,271. Technology Upgrades for Reeve Memorial UnionThe Student Technology Fee will purchase a new 16mm projector for the Reeve Union Theater and a document camera, available at no cost to student organizations for presentations. Funding: $11,020. Public Computers for Copy ThisThe Student Technology Fee will purchase a Windows-based and a Macintosh computer for Reeve Union’s Copy This center. These computers will allow students to make edits to their printing jobs and create projects from scratch. Funding: $5,666. General Computer Access Student Lab StaffingThe Student Technology Fee will provide funding to Academic Computing to hire student lab consultants, to maintain the level of staffing in the GCA labs. Without this funding, staffing in the labs would need to be cut, leading to shorter hours and even some labs being completely unstaffed (card access only). Funding: $20,000. Career Services Technology UpgradeThe Student Technology Fee will purchase three new computers for Career Services (to replace out-dated computers), and provide funding for paper for student printing. Funding: $3,677.
