Policy:
The overall purpose of the
Student Technology Fee is to enhance student access to
information technologies which are in addition to those
available prior to the fee's creation. Information
technologies are defined as applications and solutions
that result in a student's ability to access information
for learning and that meet the University's educational
mission.
Revenues from the Student
Technology Fee may not replace funds which were
previously allocated to information technologies unless
the funds being replaced are from student segregated or
user fees.
Specific uses of the Student
Technology Fee will relate to the following broad goals,
which have been identified as top priorities by the
Oshkosh Student Association:
- Additional staffing
and services for computer labs.
- Additional student computer
workstations or upgrade of existing
computers.
- Additional or upgraded software
in student computer labs.
- Additional training for
students on use of computers, software, e-mail,
networks, etc.
- Networking, e-mail, and/or
dial-in access for students.
OSA may propose modifications
and/or additions to these priorities.
Expenditures from the Student
Technology Fee should also relate to goals identified in
the University's annual Strategic Plan for Information
Technology.
Procedures:
- The University shall establish a
separate account for the Student Technology
Fee.
- The Oshkosh Student Association
shall appoint annually a Student Technology Fee
Committee. OSA will determine the number of students on
this Committee. Continuity of members is encouraged. The
Committee may solicit proposals and suggestions from
students.
- Each Spring Semester, the
Director of Academic Computing will
provide the OSA Student Technology Fee Committee with a)
a summary report on the current year's projects funded by
the Student Technology Fee and b) proposals for projects
to be funded by the Student Technology Fee during the
next fiscal year. The Committee will review and provide
commentary on proposed uses of the Student Technology
Fee.
- In consultation with the
Student Technology Fee Committee and other appropriate
committees and individuals, the Director of Academic Computing will determine those projects
to be funded by the Student Technology Fee.
- The Director of Academic Computing will prepare the annual campus
report on projects funded by the Student Technology Fee
(due to UW System in October). Copies of this report will
be provided to the OSA President, members of the Student
Technology Fee Committee, Chancellor, Provost and Vice
Chancellor, Assistant Chancellor for Student Affairs, and
Executive Director of Administrative
Services.
