The new academic building will incorporate the following “green” measures:
- 75 percent of construction debris will be diverted from landfills or incinerators.
- The building will feature safe lighting without light spill pollution.
- The design will require 20 percent less water usage.
- Low-volatile organic compound materials will be used for enhanced air quality.
- Storm water will be managed to reduce runoff.
- The facility will incorporate salvaged/recycled/rapidly renewable materials.
- Local materials and resources will be used.
- The heating and cooling system will be more efficient, saving 40-50 percent.
