Dr. Hoefferle pursues research on the relationship between the creation of public folk art and the affirmation of a regional identity. Her most recent work explores the construction of parade floats in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and its role in promoting community. She has published extensively on the significance of folk art in the Upper Midwest.
