Identification of Colleges and Other Individual Units

The brand guidelines allow for combining essential elements of the University brand identity with flexible elements that may be used to enhance unit identity.

There are many different offices, departments, and colleges that make up the University of Wisconsin

IdentificationOshkosh, and in many cases, it is important for them to have a strong individual identity. At the same time, it is essential for each to be readily recognized as part of the University in order to benefit fully from the connection to this highly respected, comprehensive institution. The strength of the whole lends strength to the parts.

Accordingly, to accomplish both goals, the brand guidelines allow for combining essential elements of the University brand identity with flexible elements that may be used to enhance unit identity.

For each of the University's four colleges, a version of the wordmark (view workdmark guidelines) has been developed, incorporating the name of the college. Usage guidelines, along with templates for such essentials as business cards and letterhead, can be found under brand templates.

Additional ways to distinguish individual colleges can include consistent use of selected colors from within the University's palette; use of distinctive photographic imagery or technique; and the use of language and style that reflect unique elements of the college's mission and values. Integrated Marketing & Communications will work closely with each college to continue the development of college sub-brands.

Units that receive funding from external resources/sponsors may have a need to include a sponsor logo or other identifier alongside the UW Oshkosh wordmark or logo. In such instances, the size of the other identifiers should be the same size as the University logo or wordmark or slightly smaller.

Other University entities are also invited to work with IMC to develop identification strategies and unit signatures consistent with the University brand. Please note that all individual unit identifiers must be approved by IMC prior to implementation.

Please contact IMC if you need assistance with identification issues.

Special Organizations

Special Orgs

There are some organizations on campus that are legally separate from the University, i.e., the Foundation and the Alumni Association. These organizations have special permission to use the logo or wordmark as part of their visual identity. They also work closely with Integrated Marketing & Communications to ensure that their use of such University identifiers is appropriate.

If you believe your unit falls under this definition, please contact IMC for review.
