Academic Advisor/Counselor - 275a.0809

Student Support Services

Requirements (Degree/Experience):

  • Baccalaureate degree
  • Experience working with college students who are first-generation, low-income and/or disabled
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends

Responsibilities:

  • Provide support for program students in the areas of academic advising, study skills, leadership development, career planning and financial aid advising
  • Serve as the lead advisor for students in the science, technology, engineering and technology arenas
  • Assess student needs, develop individual student plans of action and monitor student success
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of student contact
  • Develop, implement and evaluate the SSS Peer mentoring Program
  • Assist in planning, chaperoning and evaluating academic and cultural enrichment events and activities

Preferences:

  • Master's degree
  • Knowledge of Student Support Services and/or TRiO programs

Start Date:

October 1, 2008

Salary:

Competitive

Terms of Appointment:

  • Academic Staff position. Twelve month, 100% time contract with renewal subject to grant funding and based upon performance
  • Student Support Services is funded through a grant with the U.S. Department of Education. The present grand is funded through August 31, 2010
